No meaningful medical response to any use of nuclear weapons is possible, under any circumstances: the only option is prevention. Their abolition is a medical and public health imperative.

The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) is in force as of 22 January 2021. 

The global campaign for the TPNW was initiated in Australia by medical and other health professionals.

Now, it's time our own government accepts our professional advice and commits to signing and ratifying the nuclear ban treaty.

Give the Health Minister your advice

The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons makes nuclear weapons illegal from 22 January 2021. Australia has not yet signed the treaty. 

By asking the Health Minister to recognise the evidence on the devastating consequences of any use of nuclear weapons, we can help bring our own nation closer to signing and ratifying the nuclear ban treaty.

As the Minister responsible for the health of the Australian people, I urge you to take action on the growing risk of use of nuclear weapons.

There could be no meaningful medical response to any use of nuclear weapons: the health, humanitarian, and environmental consequences are devastating and long lasting.

I urge you to accept the advice of Australian health professionals, based on compelling and irrefutable evidence, and recognise that:

- Nuclear weapons must never be used, under any circumstances, and;
- It is a medical and public health imperative to prohibit and eliminate nuclear weapons.

You have the power and obligation to act on the evidence and take preventative action on nuclear weapons. Please use your position to ensure Australia signs and ratifies the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
